Achari Chicken

A tangy chicken recipe made with yogurt and pickling spices!

  • 1 kg chicken
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 270 grams tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 3 chilies slit into halves
  • 4-5 curry leaves
  • 1/2 packet of Achar gosht powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 6 tbsp cooking oil
  • Coriander for garnish
  • Salt to taste


  • In a pan, add oil and chicken and let it cook on a medium flame for about 2 minutes
  • Add ginger garlic paste, achar gosht powder, turmeric powder, chili powder, salt and sauté
  • To the chicken, add yogurt and give it a stir and then add tomato paste
  • Cover with a lid and let it cook for about 15–20 minutes
  • In another pan, add some oil, chilies, curry leaves, and coriander and fry for about a minute or two on a low flame
  • Add the garnish in the curry and serve hot along with some jeera rice or parathas
