Moong Dal Fry

  • Pressure Cooker
  • A pan to prepare garnish


  • 1 cup moong dal
  • 1 small onion
  • 3 cloves of garlic minced
  • 2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 3 dry red chilies
  • 6-7 curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste


  • In a pressure cooker add moong dal, water, turmeric powder, salt and let it cook for about 15 minutes on medium flame
  • To make the garnish, in a pan, add ghee, oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, red chilies, and let it fry for about half a minute
  • Then add garlic and onion and sauté for another minute
  • Once the dal is cooked, add the garnish to the dal and serve hot.


For the garnish, add the spices in the same order for better results as some of the spices might not cook completely if added all together
